Why I Love Shooting Couples | Utah Wedding Photographer
When I first started photography, I shot everything under the sun. I did families, seniors, couples and weddings, newborns, I tried out product photography. Literally everything. And it was so overwhelming because I tried to be good at all of them. I spread myself so thin that I couldn’t really progress and get to as good of a point as I wanted to.
When I was about 2 years into my photography journey, I attended a workshop put on by a local wedding photographer. She talked about the importance of niching yourself, or finding those couple things that you really enjoyed shooting and just focusing on those. Cut out everything else and only shoot what you want. That statement made such a difference to me. I decided that what I really loved was shooting couples and weddings. I decided to drop almost everything else except the occasional family and senior, and I put all of my efforts into bettering myself at shooting couples.
I started working with more model couples to better myself. I took posing classes online. I attended workshops and styled shoots. And it helped me so much. I learned more about how to capture those special connections from my couples. I’ve learned so much from so many other amazing photographers over the past couple years. And I can’t wait to continue learning about how to better capture what I want. Couples are my favorite. I love seeing the love that two people share between them. I love hearing about their love stories, how they met and ended up falling in love. For me, seeing those perfect emotions and connections between two people gives me so much hope for the world!
